Desayuno continental?!/ Continental breakfast.

Hemos visto en infinidad de veces cuando estamos de viaje (volando por TWI) que una de las opciones para el desayuno en los hoteles es el llamado desayuno continental. Otra opción siempre disponible es el desayuno criollo, típico de aquel lugar. Lo que me llama la atención es que el desayuno continental es siempre el mismo en todos los continentes (al menos en los que yo he estado) y consta de cereales, croissants, variedad de panes y mermeladas, variedad de galletas tanto dulce como saladas,  frutas, en algunos lugares yogurt, té, café, jugos naturales, etc. Si el desayuno criollo marca diferencia entre un lugar y otro por el tipo de platos que se sirven el desayuno continental debería ser lo mismo o simplemente se debería llamar desayuno y olvidar de la otra parte. Una de las definiciones de la real academia española para desayuno es acción de desayunar. Por tanto todos deberíamos ser capaces simplemente de desayunar sin importarnos la connotación de la palabra continente que acompaña estas comidas.  Yo la próxima vez  voy a pedir un desayuno Americano, sólo para estar seguro… 

When on business or on holiday trips (better fly by TWI), one of the options for breakfast it´s the continental. Always available as well is the local one, usually with the same name of the place, region or country that it´s been visited. The first, it´s mostly the same everywhere, at least in the continents that I have been to, and complies of cereals, croissants, different types of marmalades, sweet and salty breads & biscuits, fruits, yogurts, tea, coffee, and smoothies, etc. The local breakfast however, have a different selection of cooked dishes including meats as well as grilled vegan options (the hot qualifies the cold but not vice verse). Now well, my point is that the continental breakfast it should drop the name itself as it does not specifies the actual continent where you are, or at least this is my experience. The Oxford dictionaries define breakfast as: “A meal eaten in the morning, the first of the day”. Therefore we should only focus in the action of having breakfast without having to ask for a continental meal. Next time I shall ask for an American breakfast, just to be sure…
