The meeting between the two high level
commissions was held in Caracas, Venezuela, with the visit of the Ecuadorian
president Rafael Correa. Before his departure there was a final encounter
between the two presidents Correa and Maduro, the Venezuelan president, and the
former declared more or less, the following:
“two centuries of development has been lost, and that´s what we are
trying to recover”, whilst the Venezuelan campaigns with regards to the celebration
of the Bicentenary uses a different slogan, that´s to say: “the fight for the
independency continues”. As we can see there is a divergent opinion between the
two campaigns regarding what to expect from the bicentenary. Not to mention
that as far as I am concern, the Economy of Ecuador strongly relies on the
American dollar which makes them completely dependants in the richest country
in the world. I have no doubts that Correa pursues the best interests for his
country but I wonder what he means when he speaks about development. Does he consider
development the number of industries from the first world currently working in
Ecuador relying in the strong currency?... may I recall that we used to have a
similar model with the oil industry in
Venezuela for half of century and then we decided to nationalise it. After this we were left behind with no
development, poor oil prices, a week oil industry, and a massive debt… For all
these we better let our campaign to keep forward: “the fight for the independency
continues”...
